Superbowl 2 – The Sequel
Well hello readership! All 10 of you. It's nice to be back and how appropriate that it was just when Chino gave up on me and decided to write an article about his idol Tom Brady. Well, in the spirit of the impending Big Game and Junior's return to J&C.com, I decided to start my own thread today.
A couple of housecleaning items. Chino was right, I was going through some personal issues, but they are being worked on or have been resolved and I think I can write on a regular basis.
Second, HELL YEAH SCOTT BROWN!! I have never heard our President's supporters so quiet before. And for those of you who are foolish enough to believe that this is not a referendum on Mr O's policies including weakness on terror, health care, and profligate spending, observe the next three years and then come back and tell us whether or not he was a lame duck. This guy ain't gonna get crap passed or signed. He can still save his presidency and wind up with a little better standing than Jimmy Carter, but he will need to stop trying to kiss the right's ass and (fill in the blank)ing the left at the same time. I digress.
Third, I am and have been a Jets fan for as long as I can remember. With being a Jets' fan comes certain responsibilities, always yelling "J! E! T! S!" when you see another fan or watch a game, having a sense of humor, hating the Patriots (that's an easy one, unless you are Chino and have a bromance with Tom Brady) and above all... never getting your hopes too high!! Well, let me tell you all something... even though my Jets lost yesterday, mark (no pun intended) my words, this team is going to be a force to be reckoned with! We already have the best defense in the NFL and the number one rushing offense and we get big Kris Jenkins and Leon Washington which will only server to further advance the cause of their respective functions in the aforementioned categories. Mark Sanchez has grown up right before my eyes and is poised to become a great QB. The team is young and full of talent. I love that I have seen lots of our top prospects being drafted and implemented into a "system" that is now ready to take off. The system is also something that our friend Chino does not believe in. Although it is not something you can touch, smell or see, a system does exist. It is what allows teams to do well despite injuries to the stars of the team. It is what has allowed the Patriots to go 11-5 with Matt Cassel and subsequently affording the Chiefs to suck beyond there years. Conversely it is what allows the Raiders to continue to suck even though they have had the top draft picks for about the last 5 years straight vis a vis the Detroit Lions. My question has been and continues to be posed to Chino as this, "would his hero Tom Brady be half or one quarter or one eighth the QB he has been with New England?" I would even go as far as to say that Peyton Manning is a much quarter back than Tom Brady. TB has had the supporting until now... and so he struggles. Peyton is like having a coach and QB combined. He has a laser precision and rocket launching arm AND he knows how to make adjustments like no other. Case in point, the Jets were doing well in yesterday's game by keeping Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark under great coverage. So, Peyton leads his team out in the second half and picks up the Jets money in the bank blitz and begins picking them apart by going to Garcon and Collie which forces the Jets to go from man to man (which you can do when you have Darrelle Revis), to Zone (which you must do when you don't have 4 Revises out there). For two consecutive full seasons Chino has made, "wait til next year" type remarks. He all but guaranteed that Cassel would fall on his face when I said he would not because New England has a system. He said that Brady would return to greatness right away. He now says that Brady would have to be a freak of nature to be able to pick up where he left off at the end of a couple of seasons ago. Okay, I guess once again, we will have to wait until next year. I do know this, Brady and the Pats will not be winning the AFC East for the next few years!
Sound off people... system or no system?!?! Chino says "what system? what... run the ball and try to score and make sure the other team doesn't! hahahahaha". I'm sure this is why head coaches make $ to $5 million a year. I'm sure this is why there are almost as many coaches as there are players. I'm sure this is why people who know about football say that the Great Teams are the ones who can spit in the face adversity, have a plan, but make the necessary ADJUSTMENTS. This is also why, as much as I hate to say this, unless Sanchez changes his ways and stops just hanging out, pulling his shoulder pads down so because they are uncomfortable and eating hot dogs on the sidelines, he will never be the quarter back that Peyton Manning. If you have a recording of yesterday's or any Colts' games, watch Peyton on the sidelines and see what he is doing. If he is not encouraging and pushing his players, he is studying the plays of the current game sent down from the birdseye coaches. If there was no system, there would be no need for a great player like Peyton to review. Just go out there and run the ball a lot and throw touchdowns right? I mean how hard could it be?
Glad to have me back!
